The Rev. Thomas M. Aitken is Bishop of the Northeastern Minnesota Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran church in America and is one of sixty five Bishops in the Evangelical Lutheran church in America. He is the Chair of the ELCA Bishops Middle East Peace Ready Bench, and Chair of the Roster Committee of the ELCA. Bishop Aitken served five congregations prior to becoming bishop in 2008, and taught Philosophy and Ethics as an Adjunct Instructor at the Community College level. Aitken studied at University of Northwestern and University of Minnesota and received his Master of Divinity from Luther Seminary, St. Paul, Minnesota. Luther Seminary is one of eight ELCA seminaries. Aitken was ordained in 1985.
Believing and Having Faith Bishop Aitken is open to leading a Bible and Faith Study for men’s, women’s or mixed men and women’s Retreats around the theme Belief and Faith. He uses the Gospels as well as other Biblical texts around the meanings of trust, fidelity, faith and believing. You could arrange with one of our Camps (where he has done these already) or at a location of your choosing. He presents a Biblical understanding of what faith and belief really are, and in particular, as a Lutheran Christian. You may contact the synod office to make arrangements with him.
As the synod’s pastor, Bishop Aitken is available in his role as teacher to do presentations in congregations. He is especially eager to be scheduled for “clusters” of congregations. He may be booked for Sunday mornings, week nights, youth or adult forums etc. on the following topics:
